Getting Started with Dots

This section covers the basics to help you start using Dot. You’ll learn how to set up your account, navigate the platform, and run your first AI model or agent.

Whether you’re managing Dot for your organization or using it to build AI workflows, these steps will help you get up and running quickly.

Creating an Account and Logging In

Follow these steps to create your Dot account and access the platform:

  1. Go to Dot’s login page: [Insert Link]
  2. Sign up using your email, Google, GitHub, or LinkedIn account.
  3. If you sign up with your email, we’ll send you a verification email.
  4. Verify your email to activate your account.
  5. Once verified, log in and you’re ready to go.

Navigating the User Interface

After logging in, Dot is ready to assist you with any task. You can start chatting directly or choose one of two modes to guide your experience:

Understanding Modes: Simplified vs. Focused

If you start chatting directly, you'll be in Simplified mode by default. Or, you can select between:

Simplified Mode

A human-like approach powered by large language models (LLMs). Best for handling simple tasks like drafting content, summarizing documents, or answering general questions.

Focused Mode

An autonomous, task-driven mode where you can:

  • Chat with AI agents to perform more complex or specific tasks.
  • Run multi-step workflows.
  • Create and manage your own AI agents and AI agent workflows.

Interacting with Dot

At the bottom of the screen, you’ll find the chat input box, where you can type messages or commands.

Additional ways to interact include:

  • Speaking your prompt to initiate voice-based interaction.
  • Calling specific agents to complete a complex task (available in Focused Mode).
  • Adding files to provide additional context or data for your task.

Managing Logic, Sources, and Collections

Dot gives you tools to manage the flow of information, track AI decision-making, and organize generated outputs.

Logic

Track how Dot processes each request in real-time.

  • You can review which AI model was selected, how tasks are transferred between agents, and the status of the overall process.
  • This visibility makes it easier to monitor workflows and understand how decisions are made.

Sources

Provide your AI agents with relevant data by uploading documents and files.

  • These sources can include PDFs, CSVs, and other documents that your agents use to enhance their responses and complete tasks more accurately.
  • Managing your data sources ensures your agents always have access to the most up-to-date and relevant information.

Collections

Organize and access files that are generated by Dot during your workflows and conversations.

  • These outputs are automatically stored, allowing you to review, download, and share them whenever needed.
  • Collections help keep your generated content structured and easily accessible.

👉 Tip: Use the Logic tab during complex workflows to monitor agent activity and troubleshoot any issues in real-time.

Running Your First AI Model or Agent

Dot enables you to run AI models and agents to automate tasks and workflows. To get started with your first agent, you’ll use Focused Mode, which is designed for more complex and structured processes.

Step 1: Activate Focused Mode

Begin your session in Focused Mode to work with AI agents that manage complex tasks, multi-step workflows, and automated processes.

Step 2: Choose an AI agent

Select the AI agent best suited for your task. You can work with:

  • Novus Agents, which are pre-built, ready-to-use agents designed by the Novus team for common business workflows.
  • Custom Agents, which you or your team have built and tailored to your organization’s specific needs.

When you initiate the task, the agent will remain active throughout the conversation. There’s no need to reselect it unless you switch to a different agent.

Step 3: Start Chatting with the Agent

Once your agent is active, you can send prompts or commands. The agent will handle the task, whether that’s generating content, processing data, or managing a workflow.

Step 4: Track Agent Activity

While the agent works, you can review its actions and monitor its decision-making process in the Playground Panel.

Dot provides insights into how tasks are handled, which models are used, and the workflow's progress.

Step 5: Continue Without an Agent (Optional)

If you want to continue the conversation without agent involvement, you can deactivate the agent at any time. Dot will then respond directly to your prompts without the active workflow or task management of the agent.

👉 Tip: Focused Mode is best when your task requires precision and consistency. Activate an agent to automate multi-step workflows, manage complex processes, and ensure accurate, repeatable outcomes.
